The LPG Crisis

When War Affects Our Kitchen: The LPG Crisis

We often think wars only affect the countries involved, but in today’s connected world, that’s not true. Even a conflict happening far away can impact our daily lives. The recent LPG crisis is a clear example of this.

Due to rising tensions in West Asia, especially around key routes like the Strait of Hormuz, the supply of oil and gas has been disrupted. This route is crucial because a large portion of the world’s LPG passes through it. When conflict increases, transportation becomes risky, shipments get delayed, and supply chains slow down.

India depends heavily on imported LPG, so any disruption is quickly felt here. Many households are facing delays in cylinder deliveries, and in some cases, prices have increased. This puts extra pressure on families already dealing with rising living costs.

The impact goes beyond homes. Small businesses like tea stalls, street food vendors, and restaurants rely on LPG for their daily operations. With shortages, they are forced to raise prices, cut down their menus, or temporarily stop working. This affects both their income and the customers who depend on them.

What makes this crisis concerning is how suddenly it has affected everyday life. A distant war has reached our kitchens, showing how interconnected the world has become.

While the government is trying to manage the situation by prioritizing household supply, the uncertainty continues. This situation highlights the need for India to explore alternative energy sources and reduce dependence on imports.
